Morning at the park, dinner at Chick-Fil-A, and a break-in?

Did I mention that I gave up on the Katy Photos at the Park Meetup Group? The first meeting went really well -- three people showed up, we took photos and started to get to know each other. The second meeting, three people RSVP'd, but only one showed up. The third, one RSVP and no one showed. Finally people stopped even responding to my messages.

When you're the admin of a Flickr group, and you quit the group, the next oldest member becomes admin. I doubt that person even knows that he is now the admin of my former group, since no one ever goes there.

Somehow a week ago I ended up on . I thought hey, this is a good idea. I haven't had any luck getting my IRL friends to twitter or read my blog, but they all have email. I can send out an email inviting them to the park or out for coffee without the freak-out factor of using the phone. (And, while gathering up emails for my mailing list, I discovered that several of my friends actually use Facebook. I now have configured to notify me of my friends' Facebook activity!)

Anyway, the point is that I decided I wanted to go to the park, so I set up an Evite and invited everyone to meet me at the park this morning. I got a few RSVPs, some negative because of people having to work or being out of town, etc. I was kind of sad that only one person RSVP'd yes, but I figured that would still be fun. Except that she didn't show up. sad I think I must have missed her, since it was actually the daughter of a friend, and I don't exactly know what she looks like. Still, suck. sad

Now I'm nervous about trying again. I do know that one of my friends will probably come if I don't schedule it during her playgroup again, and two others had temporary conflicts so maybe they'll come. But it really kind of sucked to sit at the park for an hour and see all the other moms hanging out with their friends and being alone, so after an hour I gave up and took the kids home to make them eggs and pancakes for lunch (figured I'd cheer myself up by being a cool mom). wink

Ok, but I will try again. I have a lot more email addresses now, so more people to invite.

On a better note, we drove Mark to work this morning so I would have the car to go to the park (his truck is broken again!), and he took us all in to show us off. It's always so weird to be kind of paraded around for his co-workers like we're a freak show, but it's also way cool because he's so very proud of us and everyone is always excited to meet the wife and kids that they hear so many good things about. smile

Before we left Mark gave us some coupons that the office had for free sandwiches at Chik-Fil-A. I lurve Chik-Fil-A! We had to come back to that side of town to use them (we didn't pick Mark up from work because he went out with his co-workers and isn't actually home yet), which was a little annoying when I ended up driving in circles on the feeder trying to figure out how to get into the mall. And wow, Northwest Mall is... well, not someplace I would want to be after dark. But we had a really great time getting our free dinner (well, I bought a soda and fries to share). We even saw Mark's boss and his wife and son.

Then we just kind of walked around and window-shopped. I have one of those backpack/harness/leash things, and Aisling was having a blast wearing it and getting to walk around on her own. Then when she decided she wanted to ride in the stroller I let Sinead put the harness on (she really wanted to) and she played around pulling the leash as far as it would go. Until she saw shoes. Apparently my middle daughter is all girl, because she went gaga every time she saw a cute pair of shoes, and then dragged us all into a quinceanera shop to look at the pretty dresses. But not the pink ones; she likes purple. My, she's opinionated!

But wait, you're saying. Sounds like a nice day, park, pancakes, dinner, window-shopping. But what about the break-in??

Ok, I don't actually think there was one. We came home from the mall and the curtain over my sliding glass door was torn down. (It's a temporary curtain, and comes down whenever anyone messes with it too much.) All of the laundry that was piled in front of the door was spread around the room, and the door was unlocked. Needless to say, I was taken aback.

After considering it for a moment I decided that we probably did not have a break in, since nothing was missing. I thought maybe Mark had come home or my sister-in-law had come over and come in through the back door since the front was locked. (The back should have been locked, and you can bet I'll be triple-checking it from now on!) I called Mark and he said he hadn't been home, and he was certain his sister hadn't been over, either. (I think she may be out of town.) Mark thought that Harley must have done it, and I think that must be it. He probably needed to go out and dug all of the laundry out of his way, knocking down the curtain in the process, before being confronted with the impassibility of a closed door.

Mark also pointed out that if anyone had tried to break in to our house, I would have found blood from where Harley had attacked them. This is true. I mean, Harley is a very good dog, but German Shepherds are fiercely protective and very strong, traits that have earned them a spot on the "most dangerous dog breeds" lists. Fortunately they are also loyal and intelligent, so I don't worry in the least about him hurting one of the kids. I think he's just as likely to rip someone's throat out for threatening my children as he is to wag his tail and lick Aisling's hand as she smacks him on the nose.

I'm feeling kind of lovey toward that sweet dog. wink

Oh, BTW, I have totally been doing my new Project 365. I'm planning to post the photos on Sunday for .
