Funny Baby
Aisling is so funny. She and I were just playing "Mama. What?" That's where she says, "Mama," and then I say "What?" Then she says, "Mama," and I say "What?" And so on until she gets frustrated at me.
She did that a couple of times, and then decided to feed me my necklace. Unfortunately (fortunately) the chain is not long enough for that. And after I sternly stopped her from eating my necklace herself (she was using her teeth!), she decided to eat my cheeks. There's something extremely amusing about a one year old trying to put your cheeks in her mouth.
I know, not the most thrilling blog post ever, but in a couple of years I'll read it again and be happy.

Here's a game; guess what these photos are.

These are two completely different and unrelated objects. Both were found in my home. The second was converted to black and white, although the original colors were fairly monochrome to begin with.

Project (17/365): Tackle It Tuesday

We were getting kind of behind on the dishes because Anna, who normally washes the dishes, spent a week at her cousins' house, and the rest of us kind of slacked off. Well, Mark decided that since Anna hadn't been doing a great job on the dishes anyway, he was going to get them all done "right," and then turn it over to me*. By "all," he meant all -- he pulled out every dish in the cupboards that he didn't feel was clean enough and piled it all up on the counter beside the sink.
* I'm meant to have Anna watch me do the dishes for a while, and then watch her do them so I can be sure she does them right.
At first he was working on this huge pile of dishes himself. Then, when Anna came home, he had her do it with strict oversight. Well, Anna's been home for a week, and while there has been progress with dishes washed every single day, and the dishes that have been done have been done right -- even if they had to be done twice -- we haven't actually had all the dishes done at any given point in the last two weeks. I was starting to get unhappy.
So today I rolled up my sleeves (metaphorically, since I got lots of summer maternity clothes for my birthday!) and finished the job. I suppose I worked for about three hours, and now every single dish in the house, including pots and pans, is clean. The counters are all wiped down, and the sink is shined. (At least, as shiny as brushed metal gets.) Tomorrow I plan to clean out the fridge and pantry, wipe down the walls, and give the floor a good scrubbing.
I had Anna watch me do the dishes, and I pointed out some things I do differently than she does, like how I keep the towel (on which I set clean dishes), my apron, and the floor from getting soaking wet while I wash. I showed her how I had one pan with some particularly stubborn cooked-on eggs, and how even though I had to soak it multiple times and scrub in between, I didn't give up, and eventually got it clean. I taught her the word "perseverance." Then I taught her that every one makes mistakes when Aoghdan dried the pan and scraped off a little bit more egg.
Then I showed Aoghdan what clean counters actually look like, since wiping them down is his job. Tomorrow he'll see what a clean floor looks like! LOL.

An interesting puzzle
See if you can find 30 books of the Bible in the following paragraph:
There are thirty books of the Bible in this paragraph. Can you find them? This is a most remarkable puzzle. It was found by a gentleman in an airplane seat pocket, on a flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu, keeping him occupied for hours. One friend from Illinois worked on this while fishing from his john boat. Another friend studied it while playing his banjo. Elaine Taylor, a columnist friend, was so intrigued by it she mentioned it in her weekly newspaper column. Another friend judges the job of solving this puzzle so involving, she brews a cup of tea to help her nerves. There will be some names that are really easy to spot. That's a fact. Some people, however, will soon find themselves in a jam, especially since the book names are not necessarily capitalized. Truthfully, from answers we get, we are forced to admit it usually takes a minister or scholar to see some of them at the worst. Research has shown that something in our genes is responsible for the difficulty we have in seeing the books in this paragraph. During a recent fund raising event, which featured this puzzle, the Alpha Delta Phi lemonade booth set a new sales record. The local paper, The Chronicle, surveyed over 200 patrons who reported that this puzzle was one of the most difficult they had ever seen. As Daniel Humana humbly puts it, "the books are all right here in plain view hidden from sight." Those able to find all of them will hear great lamentations from those who have to be shown. One revelation that may help is that books like Timothy and Samuel may occur without their numbers. Also, keep in mind, that punctuation and spaces in the middle are normal. A chipper attitude will help you compete really well against those who claim to know the answers. Remember, there is no need for a mad exodus, there really are 30 books of the Bible lurking somewhere in this paragraph waiting to be found.
It took me about an hour.

Funny Things Kids Say
Well, I didn't post my photo from yesterday today, and I didn't take one today, because I've been sick and sleeping pretty much since I got home from church this afternoon. But I got up for a minute to get some mint tea, and I just wanted to share a couple of quick things.
Seamus was on the couch (but awake, naughty boy!), and I showed him that I was wearing the pink watch he and Hamish picked out for me for Mother's Day. He smiled and said, "I thought it would match your skin and it does."
Also, because Sinead has been wearing these Blue's Clues pajamas that her cousin gave her, Mark and I were talking (she says, "Clue's Clues" like Anna and Aoghdan used to) and I remembered something from way back when. In our first apartment I had an antenna decoration on the TV antenna. I'm pretty sure it was a Bearkat print from SHSU (thought it might have been a Bobcat print from Cy-Fair HS). When Anna and Aoghdan first saw it they pointed and shouted, "Look, a clue, a clue!"
Ok, nose is running and I need to go back to bed. Night all.
