Sorry if you got a barrage of emails...

Sorry to anyone who got a barrage of emails from me yesterday. There was a mistake in my script that imports my Project365 photos so that it sent out an email every time it checked for new photos, even if there was nothing new to post. I think it's fixed, so hopefully you will ONLY get an email if and when my script imports a new Project365 photo, or I post an actual new blog entry (photo or otherwise) myself. (Remember that you do not get emails when my blog imports my Facebook status...

Newness at #!/usr/bin/mom

You may have noticed that my poor little blog has been somewhat neglected lately -- even that some things have broken and seemingly gone unnoticed and unfixed. But new things are coming. First off, I am now using my blog mainly as a micro-blog (collecting and saving my Facebook status updates) and a photo blog (more on that in a second). There will be occasional longer blog posts, but I honestly just don't have much time to write them these days. Right now I am excited about the new...

Mark and I just spent the last 30 minutes trying to figure out why my FB to Blog script works in the browser, but not from the command line. Now that we having it working, I have to see if the cron job will work properly. Cross your fingers that you don't have to read anymore geek posts from me....

I am trying to figure out a way to integrate my blog with Facebook. I love my blog, and don't want to abandon it, but I don't have the time for long posts these days, and I love FB's format. When Mark gets up I think I will ask him to help me write a script to automatically post my FB status as a new blog...

Automatic Preview of Bible References

This morning during breakfast Bible time the subject of the twelve tribes of Israel came up. Since I knew there was more to the subject than I could explain off the top of my head, I went to look it up online. I found my answers, and something even more interesting: a nifty blog tool called RefTagger. I've mentioned before how I wrote myself a little tag to automatically link Bible references to Bible Gateway. All I have to do is wrap any reference with [bible] and [/bible], and my blog...

Show A Random Bible Verse On Your Website

var stylenum='1';var versionid1='5';var bstyle1='none';var bwidth1='4px';var bcolor1='000000';var bpadding1='0px';var bgcolor1='transparent';Powered By The Christian Gift Ok, the developer for this script, Jason Del Giudice, emailed me a very long time ago (in October!! eek!) and I promised to give it a shot, but like a jerk I let it languish at the bottom of my email box for months. When I finally clicked over to the website I was very impressed. Look at how pretty it is! Jason says he...

Saturday Evening Post: What's Been Happening This Week

I am still doing well using my book, which is just... amazing. TWO MONTHS, you understand. Two months where I have not been sitting at my computer all day doing nothing. Two months of keeping up with the housework, the laundry, the dishes, school. It's awesome. It's wonderful. It has to be God. I honestly have no other answer. And even that answer brings up a million questions for me, mainly, "Why now? Why not seven years ago? Why not five years ago? What were you waiting for...

Thanks for buying on Amazon!

A while back I let y'all know that my site would be participating in the Amazon.com Associates program, meaning that whenever you bought something from Amazon you could click the link on my site and help me earn a little extra money without spending anything extra yourself. After posting that, I didn't really hear anything from Amazon and nothing really seemed to be happening. Then I found out that for some reason, when I checked the earnings report on Amazon, I was only seeing the current...

Changing Fonts, Contemplating BlogHerAds, Introducing Category Feeds, and Soliciting Questions

I love running things by you guys; I always get such a good response. So, for your consideration: I agree with the majority; I like the sans-serif font. So it's back! But, I've decided to keep the serif for my post titles. I think it works, especially since my title graphics use a serif font. On a lark, I submitted my site for BlogHerAds. It was supposed to take 30-60 days for them to decide whether to approve me -- it took under 4 hours. I'm not going to imagine that my site was so...

Which kind of font do you like better? I can't decide.

Serif: I changed the way some of the text elements of my site are arranged, like the info in the footer of each post and where the titles go, and I changed to a serif font. I like the arrangement, but I can't decide if I like the new font. What do you think? Should I keep it serif, or go back to sans-serif? Sans-Serif: I changed the way some of the text elements of my site are arranged, like the info in the footer of each post and where the titles go, and I changed to a serif font. I...

Sigh, all of my categories are broken now.

SIGH. A little bit of PHP is a dangerous thing. I was fooling around and accidentally set the category for all of my blog entries to "Depression & Anxiety." I swear, I'm not that depressed!! Better go fix it... ETA: Ok, I at least got all of my photo posts categorized. That was relatively easy. Now comes the hard part of trying to categorize my other posts, which aren't as easily...

Do you need help with blogging, social networking, or other internet issues?

I'm considering starting a weekly column on my blog for helping people with issues related to blogging, social networking, or the internet in general. The idea would be that people ask questions, and I answer them. Issues I can help with: * Basic HTML and CSS -- "How do I make all of the images in my blog posts centered and without borders?" * Platform Specific Questions -- "How do I use trackbacks on Blogger?" or "How do I search for tweets about Sarah Palin on Twitter?" * Help With...

Add Kirtsy, Mom Blog Network and MommyRanks to Your FeedFlare!

FeedBurner's FeedFlare is a nifty service that allows you to include "Add to..." style links in your feed. IOW, readers can submit your entry to StumbleUpon, Technorati, Digg, Del.icio.us, etc. (You may have noticed that I already added buttons for this at the bottom of each entry.) I thought that this was a neat idea, but of course FeedBurner wasn't hip to all the mommy social networking sites that I like. So I wrote my own FeedFlares for Kirtsy (I later learned that Kirtsy already...

A Post Worth Commenting On

You want to comment on this post. It calls to you and compels you to comment. And not in an evil "you must resist the evil mind-control" kind of way, but in a benevolent, big brother, "we know what's best for you" kind of way. Oh wait, that's evil, too. Pretend you didn't read that. Just comment! (If you've been getting re-directed to PayPal whenever you try to comment here, that should be fixed now. I promise I wasn't dropping hints. Why would I do that when I can write such...

moblogging

Cool. Blogging from Mark's cell phone. Trying to decide if I want to get a new, not as fancy phone next week, or take this phone and let Mark spend the money to get the supergeek phone he wants when it comes out next month. Will it be cheap and now, or better and more expensive next month?...

See 50 Newest Photos

I know, no new photos in a few days. I took them, I just haven't even looked at them, yet. I've had a hard week. Anyway, I was just fiddling with my gallery, trying to simplify it to be easier to navigate. I also now have a dynamic album called Recent Updates. It shows the 50 most recent photos, regardless of what album they are in. I'm adding that link to my sidebar, too, in the "New Photos"...
