Mommy Talk: My birth stories

It seems silly for me to re-tell all four of my birth stories when I have them here on the blog already. So I just made sure they are all public entries, and here are the links. BTW, if you click on the baby’s name in the birth story, you’ll get photos from that day.

Seamus Riley Leroy Potter was born by cesarean section at Sugarland Methodist Hospital at 3:39 pm on April 9, 2002. He was 8 pounds, 15 ounces, and 21 inches long.

Hamish Patrick Potter was born by VABC at Texas Women’s Hospital at 12:50 am on September 22, 2003. He was 7 pounds, 2.9 ounces, and 18.5 inches long.

Sinead Eve Potter was born by VABC at home at 9:45 am on February 10, 2005. She was transferred to Memorial Hermann Hospital. She was 7 pounds, 1.5 ounces, and 20 inches long.

Note: I was reading over Sinead’s birth story, and I notice a few details left out. The injury to Sinead’s arm was called Erb’s Palsy, basically some stretched out nerves in her neck/shoulder that made her unable to move one arm. This was caused by the force necessary to extract her, and is common in breech babies. Sinead had the mildest form, which healed itself in less than a week. More severe Erb’s Palsy, like if the nerves tear, can sometimes require surgery. We were blessed. Also, the “seizures” that the hospital claim Sinead had never recurred. (None of us ever saw them.) They think it might have been a simple reaction to birth also common to breech babies.

Aisling Renee Potter was born by VABC at Memorial Hermann Hospital at 2:08 pm on December 4, 2006. She was 7 pounds, 7 ounces, and 19 inches long.
